COMMONWEALTH BANK COMMITMENT TO DEVELOPING TENNIS
11 Sep 2008
Bali, 11 September 2008 - Positioned as an international caliber bank, Commonwealth Bank put high attention towards the development of sports in Indonesia, especially tennis. Their commitment is evident through an event called Commonwealth Bank Junior Master 2008, which is the highlight of 7 tennis tournaments for junior participants under the series of Bintang Junior Open 2008.

“Commonwealth Bank’s commitment towards Indonesian tennis is high, not only supporting the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour but also through the development of junior tennis players. We hope by giving opportunities to develop young tennis players, these juniors will become the future tennis players representing this great nation” said Nursing, President Director PT Commonwealth Bank Indonesia on Thursday at a press conference at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua.

He further added that Commonwealth Bank has for the past 4 years proudly supported South East Asia’s largest women’s tennis under the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour and for the past two years have become the main sponsor for this international caliber tournament.

The winners of the Commonwealth Bank Junior Masters 2008 had the opportunity to participate in a coaching clinic by Todd Woodbridge and Angelique Widjaja. The junior payers, averaging between ages 12 – 16 were also invited to watch some professional tennis on the courts of Grand Hyatt Bali during the Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic 2008.

Both Todd and Angie admitted that they were happy and proud to assist in the development process of creating potential future tennis players that will hopefully in the future represent Indonesia in various international tournaments. (*)

1 - There is a few element why Indonesian player cannot be compete in the international events :
1. Lack of high level tournament
2. Dedication to win and eager to be the best.
3. It's still "expensive sport" on people's mind.
4. Lack of The International matches for Indonesian Junior Player
