Message from Tournament Director

It has been another successful year for the Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic in 2008 and we would like to extend our congratulations to Patty Schnyder following her victory over Tamira Paszek in the singles final. We'd also like to congratulate the doubles pairing of Su-Wei Hsieh of Chinese Taipei and Shuai Peng from China who won a fantastic match to lift the doubles trophy.

During the tournament, our tournament doctor Dr Dharmendran Navaratnam was presented with a special appreciation award for his dedication to the tour and we would like to add our congratulations for his tireless work behind the scenes.

Next year sees a new format and a new competition, as was announced in the post-tournament press conference. We're really looking forward to the new competition which will involve tournament winners from the 30 international events held during 2009 and will also be switching to an indoor format at Bali International Convention, Nusa Dua. More details of this exciting new event will be revealed in coming weeks so please keep in contact to stay up to date.

WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT

Singles winner Patty Schnyder found victory in her fourth visit to Bali by defeating 17-year-old Tamira Paszek. Previously never making it past the semi-finals, this year Patty made no mistake with a 6-3 6-0 victory.

An exciting doubles final was won by Su-Wei Hsieh of Chinese Taipei and Shuai Peng from China. They defeated Marta Domachowska of Poland and Russia's Nadia Petrova, in two hours eight-minutes to win 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-3) 10-7 in a terrific match from start to finish.

NEW FORMAT FOR 2009

Next year sees a new format and a new competition, as was announced in the post-tournament press conference. We're really looking forward to the new competition which will involve tournament winners from the 30 international events held during 2009 and will also be switching to an indoor format at the Bali International Convention, Nusa Dua. A new and exciting format has been unveiled for 2009. The Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions will take place on a new indoor court at the Bali International Convention, Nusa Dua. from November 4-8 in 2009. Featuring top WTA Tour players, the US$600,000 event will be played in an innovative 12 woman singles format with four groups of three players. Participants will be selected from the winners of the 30 international tournaments.
